Meta Post - Still the beginning
Well, its come to that time when we all get ready to party and leave Canberra ASAP. Yes, that’s right, it’s the end of semester. HOORAY!! So what does that mean? It means its time to reflect on this NMP unit, what I’ve leant and how it has impacted me. My three nominated blog posts to demonstrates what i’ve learnt are: Web 2.0 Social Networking API’s & Mash-ups This blog was my...

Rationale +
Ok so the solution to my assignment dramas was to reinsert all my story so that the lovely fellows marking my work actually have something to mark. Unfortunately its a bit late, but i didn’t want to reinsert until i’d enquired as to whether the original story could be retirieved. My fatal error in this assignment was that i decided to do most of the work in the browser. I wrote the...

Rationale - GeoNarrative
So…I just submitted the worst assignment of my life. Basically I sat down and wrote my entire story, added my photos, linked everything together, submitted and then returned to find that everything was gone. EVERYTHING. I had time to reisert images and write a quick and unlinked version of my story, but basically it sucks and i’m not quite sure what to do right now. But i hear you...

Mini Network
My blog is now coming along as a mini network. I am following other peoples blogs, receiving rss feeds, have a blog roll, and have enough blog posts with enough links to call myself a mini network. I’m linking things together and creating new information.

My Network ... hmmm
So i’m now nearing the end of my blog and the popularity of my blog = poor, actually quite poor. But I’m not personally offended, there are just things that i think need working on. One, as i am not reblogging (as much) pointless stuff as i probably would if who ever is marking this didn’t have to read through my entire blog … thats right i thought of you (minus a few...

WEB 2.0 = Mumbo Jumbo
What is web 2.0? Web 2.0 is the term on everyones lips, I even found an article about how to pronounce it on the popular!? list in Tumblr (why this boring article was popular I’m not sure, but if your not sure how to pronounce it, this is the boring article for you). Now in terms of a definition, O’Reilly media, who apparently coined the phrase, have as far as I can see supplied no real definition...

Data Visualisation
For my assignment i am thinking of doing a data visualisation but i’m not exactly sure on what content as yet. I think it is more likely that i will use stats from the internet rather than based on my own life because i don’t think i will get enough data, or enough interesting data anyway. I found some pretty awesome examples of data visualisations from the delicious likes here which...

Multiplicity
I found the lecture this week pretty interesting, maybe because it was a quite philosophical view of multiplicity, and it was awesome to look at all the videos and photos of data visualsion, although i think the people who make them have way too much time on their hands, specifically the guy who played the car racing game 1000 times, but the end result was pretty cool. Right now i am still...

Further assignment thoughts
So with the honest lens of time, i have assessed my blog and the lessons i have learnt. When i started the project i was a bit of a blog newbie and i had to ask how to add a page to my blog (which was strange because i know how to write html code but i couldnt use the user interface) but by the end i had downloaded a new skin and modified the css to suit my own blog, was adding multiple new pages...

SOCIAL NETWORKING
I have been thinking about social networking sites, such as MySpace or Twitter, and what would be involved in the construction of one of these sites and how long it would take for one to be built. I have some prior web design experience and therefore have an idea of how long site construction can take and what is involved. From my experience a lot of time is spent (or perhaps wasted) with trial...

Rationale - ...
For my assignment I created an online exhibition for the comedian Demetri Martin. I created it in the style of a blog, as this was the most suitable solution. It was most suitable solution because the information content came in a variety of mediums, including video, text, audio and imagery and blogs are capable of supporting all of these content types. It was also the most appropriate solution as...

Demetri Martin
I am considering doing my online exhibition on Demetri Marin. I am not sure if this too specific for the assignment or whether it should be more based on his style of comedy, but i am more knowlegdeable on him specifically than his style in general, although i will still touch on his style in the exhibtion.

Assignment thoughts?
So i’ve been thinking about my assignment and so far i think i am going to do the online exhibition although i am searching for ideas other than a blog because i think this is the mst obvious solution. I havn’t decided on my topic yet but because it’s seems the most creative it appeals to me the most.

API's & Mashups
So this weeks lecture was about mashups and API’s, favourably API’s, and in the midst of it all we found some pretty cool little web sites which are based around public API’s. So basically API stands for Aplication Programming Interface and basically allows you to borrow someone elses bit of programming and use it in your own way, ie build on it or mash it with something else....

Wordpress ... more like lamepress
Yes that’s right, there has been a developement in my blogging preferences and that is that wordpress are money hungry! My proir conclusions have proved inaccurate as it turns out that my word press blog cannot be edited without me paying them money … im not actually sure how much i have to pay but its the principal that matters here anyway. So to summarise … i am now blogging...

HTML + CSS
This weeks lecture was entertaining because is wasn’t done by the lecturer who wrote it so there were some little suprises in the content for all of us which i enjoyed. I found it hard to maintain focus because the  topic was html and css which i covered in college, but it was really easy to understand, and i know my friends who have no web design knowledge got a lot from it. It was also...

Disintermediation
Disintermediation: the removing of the middle man - you can thank my lecturer for that little insight The idea of blogs connecting questions straight to their answers without anyone in between shows the magnitude of technological advancements. With that said, and all these answers at our finger tips, surely Gen Y should be the smartest generation of people to ever exist! But wait … hang on,...

Tumblr vs Wordpress
More Thoughts on Wordpress So I’ve just gained some more blogging experience through my other blog for Web Design & Production. For this new blog i just started i also chose to blog through Wordpress so i could get a bit more experience and get a good comparrison going on to see what works for me. My thoughts so far are that Tumblr is a much simpler blogging system, however when i say this i...
