Tumblr vs Wordpress

More Thoughts on Wordpress

So I’ve just gained some more blogging experience through my other blog for Web Design & Production. For this new blog i just started i also chose to blog through Wordpress so i could get a bit more experience and get a good comparrison going on to see what works for me. My thoughts so far are that Tumblr is a much simpler blogging system, however when i say this i also mean that it has simpler options and is therefore much more limited than Wordpress. It very easily allows for re-blogging and is very simple to set up and get your thoughts out there to the world, but at the same time is much more difficult to customise with widgets etc. Now that i have had a bit of a play with Wordpress i have discovered that it has a lot more capabilities than i had first realised. Although compared to Tumblr the Dashboard appears a bit cluttered and confusing, when you know what you’re looking for it is quite a nifty little interface. As you can see here there is quite a difference between the two and it really comes down to what suits you personally…

So, my overall summary of the two blogging systems is that Tumblr is perfect if your looking for a quick and simple blog and have limited understanding of blogging, and Wordpress is the system for you have a deeper understanding and would like full control over the aesthetics and functionality of your blog. My only problem with Wordpress of course being that you need to PAY to customise, but if you can afford it I recommend having one of each.
